“I have told all your people about your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out,” Ps. 40:9

The good news from God is that He forgives our sins, and David boldly shared this good news with those around him. When we feel the impact of this on our lives, we cannot keep it hidden, but will want to tell other people what Christ has done for us. If God’s good news has changed your life, share it. The world is filled with people who would love to have the same hope that God has given you.

God may we have the opportunity to share your life changing message, even today. Amen

“When you do a kindness to someone . . . do it secretly . . . And your Father, who knows all secrets, will reward you,” Matt. 6:3-4

It’s easy to do right for recognition and praise. To be sure our motives are not selfish; we should do our good deeds quietly or in secret, with no thought of reward. The reward God promises is not material and it is never given to those who seek it. The true blessing that comes to believers is the blessing of simply, secretly helping others.

God cause us to invest in the needs of others, sacrificing in love, that you may be glorified. Amen

“The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few,” Luke 10:2

During this season of the year, farmers are gathering their crops. It is a joyful time as the season ends and the grain is harvested from the long year of work. In Christian service, there is no unemployment. There is always work to be done and there are plenty of needs and needy people out there. If one looks about, there will be more than enough opportunities to share the Gospel, to offer a helping hand, or reach out to a hurting person in the name of Christ. The harvest is plentiful, but there are so few laborers. Don’t be an unemployed Christian. Do something good today in His name.

Father, when I think I have too much on my plate, cause me to stop and look around. May I lift up my eyes to see the harvest that is waiting to be worked. Give us the grace to respond as you would. Amen

“Jesus shouted, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” which means, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Matt. 27:46

Jesus appears to question God at the time of his crucifixion. But He was not. Jesus was expressing the anguish He felt when He took on the sins of mankind and all the wrath of God against that which opposed Him. Jesus was cut off from God in that sacrificial moment. This was what Jesus dreaded as He prayed to God in the garden to take away the cup from Him. The cup was His death on the cross for all the sins of the world. The physical agony was beyond horrible, but even worse was the period of spiritual separation from His Father. Jesus suffered this double death so that we would never have to experience eternal separation from God. He is the sinner’s friend and in dying, He assured believers of eternal life.

God, our hearts are humbled when we think of the love that brought your son to Calvary. Forgive us of our sin this day and may we live in the light of your glory. Amen

“Be very careful never to forget what you have seen God doing for you. Tell your children and your grandchildren about the glorious miracles he did,” Deut. 4:9

Our children learn a lot by listening and observing our relationship with God. Moses wanted to make sure that the people did not forget all they had seen God do, so he urged parents to tell their children about God’s great mercies. This helped parents remember God’s faithfulness, and it provided the means for passing on from one generation to the next the stories recounting the great acts of God. You can remember God’s great acts of faithfulness by telling your children, friends, or neighbors what you have seen God do.

God, grant me the opportunities to share my faith and my testimony about your wondrous works. Amen

“World events are under His control…He gives wise men their wisdom and scholars their intelligence,” Daniel 2:21

We live in a violent world. It can be depressing to get up and watch the news or read the papers, which reveal the constant conflict between the nations of the world. When we see evil leaders live long and good leaders die young, we may wonder if God controls events. Daniel knew and proclaimed that God controls everything that happens. The world is moving according to God’s purposes and toward His specified end. Let this knowledge give you confidence and peace no matter what happens in the world about us.

Father in Heaven, may we rest, in these troubled times, with the assurance that you have this world and all its events in you view. Give us your peace to sustain us as you guide your people through this world. Amen

“I will be with you…I will not abandon you or fail to help you,” Joshua 1:5

Every new job is challenging. Without God, it can be frightening. With God it can be a great adventure. Just as God assured Joshua He would be with Him, He is with us as we face our new challenges. We may not conquer nations, but every day we face tough situations, difficult people, and temptations. However, God promises that He will never abandon us or fail to help us, regardless of how we feel. By asking God to direct us, as Joshua did, we too can conquer many of life’s challenge.

God it is reassuring to know that each day you are with us, in us, to guide our path. May we focus on your presence each moment as we face each day’s challenges. Amen

“I will hope continually, and will praise you yet more and more,” Ps. 71:14

As we face the challenges of each day, we realize that God has been with us more than once over the course of our Christian life.  He is our constant friend and helper. As we see our world changing and our families facing the trials of life, we are reminded that we need God’s strength even more. We must never despair, but keep on expecting His help, no matter how severe our limitations may be. Hope in Christ and the promises of His Word help us keep on trusting Him and depending on Him as we serve our Lord.

God, help us to never lose sight of your abiding love and mighty power. Help us to remember we are not alone in this life and that you are there for us as we call on you. Amen

“The very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to Him than a whole flock of sparrows,” Luke 12:7

The Christian life is lived by faith, which requires trust in God at every level. Our true value is God’s estimate of our worth, not our peer's or our critic’s. Other people evaluate and categorize us according to how we perform, what we achieve, and how we look. But God cares for us, as for all of His creatures, because we belong to Him. We have been purchased with a price and for that reason; we can face life without fear. Remember this day, He cares for you!

Father, give us the grace to face our challenges and problems with the full confidence that you love us and care greatly about every need we carry. Amen

“I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel,” Judges 5:3

Seldom do I think of myself as a singer. In fact others don’t consider me a singer. Yet, I sing from time to time to myself, sparing those around me the imperfections in my voice. But singing can be a way to praise the Lord. In victory, Barak and Deborah sang praises unto God, Songs of praise focus our attention on God, give us an outlet for spiritual celebration, and remind us of God’s faithfulness and character. Whether you are in the midst of a great victory or a major dilemma, singing praises to God can have a positive effect on your attitude.

Father, remind us that we can praise you through song, and that we don’t have to wait till Sunday. Amen
